Sand Art: Odisha to inspire the unique art of craftsmanship
The state of Odisha is considered to be the birthplace of sand art or sand art, situated in Purvanchal in India. Sand art is the art of sand craftsmanship. For sand art, only fine granulated sand and water are utilized.
With the aid of fine-grained sand and with the grace of God and the exclusion of fingers, an artist can shape a beautiful and attractive sculpture on the beach. Sudarshan Pattanayak is one of Odisha’s renowned sand art artists.
His works, mostly based on current world issues, festivals, world peace, sports, etc., are also interesting.
A sculptor is an artist, an actor is an artist, a dancer is an artist, an artist is even a clothes-embroidered artist.
Similarly, sand art is also a magnificent style of art that in India is rapidly emerging.
It’s not an easy task to shape sand, but many artists in India perform magic on the seashore with sand.

Sand Art History
Sand art is inspired by incredible stories and is based on them. The author of Dandi Ramayana was a great devotee of Lord Jagannath, the poet Balarama Das. Once, during Rath Yatra, he tried to climb the chariot of Lord Jagannath to offer his prayers. But the chariot priests were not allowed to climb up to offer their prayers and were even insulted by the priests. They have been disappointed and humiliated because of this. He went to the beach and inscribed on the sand the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra. Then they started to pray and worship these idols there. That the original statues disappeared from the chariot and appeared at the place where she was worshiping is the power of her devotion.
Sand art: the early growth of
Most artists today are acquainted with works of stone. So, the first stage of the sand sculpture is considered to be stone sculpture. It is an easy process to learn the unique art carried out on the sand.
So, within a short period, people can learn sand art. But to attain paranormal sand art, hard work and dedication are needed. Sand sculptures are very eye-catching and transferable.
The sad part is that it is also easy to destroy this art. It’ll be destroyed once the sand dries. Sudarshan Pattanayak started India’s first sand art institute in Puri in 1991, where he presented children with easy and simple ways of learning this art form. He is now representing India in various international competitions and has an opportunity in every part of the world to showcase his art.
Various historical scriptures suggest that one of the main places where sand art existed in ancient times was once considered to be Puri beach. The legacy is still being taken forward by Mr. Patnaik.
As the pioneer of sand art in India, he is also credited. Several students are educated and work with him.
Festival of the International Sand Arts
The Sand Art Festival is held from 1 December to 5 December in Odisha every year. The Government of Odisha and Odisha Tourism organize this festival each year. This competition involves sand/sand artists from India and different countries.
Rs 1,00,000 is awarded to the Best Sand Artist as a prize. Sand performers come primarily from Mexico, Spain, Singapore, France, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.
Sudarshan Pattanayak ( International Sand Artist )
There are very few individuals on the sand who leave their footprints. One of them is Sudarshan Pattanayak. Sudarshan Pattanayak is a rich man of boundless potential. He had always dreamed of presenting an international level of art.
He travels to many countries such as London, France, Scotland, China, Holland, Singapore, Denmark and Italy because of his outstanding talent.
For his appealing sand sculpture, he was respected by many nations and high-profile individuals. He is an international performer who needs no introduction. He represented India at the Sand Sculpture World Master Championships held in Italy in July 2001 and, as the first Indian, was awarded the third prize.
He has created masterpieces of carbon footprint reduction, congratulating US President Barack Obama on his famous victory, paying tribute to Michael Jackson’s pop sensation, and advocating the use of methods of greenery. “Limca Book of World Records”Limca World Records Book.
