There’s no question that 3Doodler’s 3D printing pen is fun, but it’s not strictly a precision tool; is big, and drawing in the air can get tricky. Lix believes professionals need something more precise, so he’s crowdfunding a 3D pen of his own. The printer is as slim and comfortable as a technical pen, giving it the kind of precision you’d need for air-drawn artwork and even some prototypes for architecture and fashion. It’s also easier to take with you: Lix’s device is powered by a USB port instead of a wall outlet, so you can draw wherever inspiration strikes.
Lix already met its funding goal in just one day, so a pledge of £82 ($135) should get you the production 3D pen (plus some initial plastic filament) when it ships in December. That’s decidedly more expensive than the $99 3Doodler, but Lix thinks the sleek design and professional approach deserves the premium. You can judge for yourself by watching the clip below.
