Your words will literally jump off the page when you’re equipped with the right pen. And the writing utensil in question is 3Doodler’s newest 3D printing pen. It’s called Create+, and it’s now available to order starting at $79.
3Doodler has long been in the business of creating pens that extrude not ink, but a special type of plastic that allows you to bring your creativity into 3D spaces. But with Create+, you get a significant improvement over previous 3D printing pens. All thanks to the new dual-drive system, which aims to up the ante when it comes to power, durability, and device reliability.
Create+ is the first 3D pen to take advantage of this innovative dual-disc technology, which apparently leads to fewer jams (which is even worse than running out of ink). And so far, it appears that testers of the device have found the company’s claims to be true: the pen is indeed jam-free.
Additionally, the dual-drive system can support a variety of different materials, including a new filament called Flexy (previously, 3Doodler pens only supported PLA and ABS plastics). Flexy can be used to create, as the name suggests, more flexible objects, such as a smartphone case.
The pen now has a more sophisticated heating algorithm, auto-retract features to prevent pen ooze, and fast and slow settings more carefully calibrated to what you’d like to draw in 3D. Create+ requires no setup to get started: once you unbox the pen, you’re ready to start making.
“It’s time to start holding 3D printers and 3D printing products to a higher standard,” 3Doodler co-founder Maxwell Bogue said of the newest product. “Faulty first-generation products are no longer acceptable to the community or end users.”
Create+ comes with a number of templates that you can use to get started almost instantly, and also provides users with more filament than any other 3D pen on the market today. The pen is available now starting at $79 through an Essential Set that comes with three plastic packs.
